Ryan Adams – Sheffield City Hall – April 27th 2012

This was the second (and final) review that I wrote for the previously mentioned blog and was written about one of my favourite artists, Ryan Adams.  I’ve left it as it was originally written, but have included links to the songs mentioned within the review.

“Hey, how’s everyone doing? I’ve come here to make you sad”, these are the first words expressed by Ryan Adams before taking his seat in the centre of the dimly lit stage. Joined on stage by an acoustic guitar, his harmonica, a piano, his songbook and a bottle of wine, Adams was clearly in one of his better moods. Continue reading

The Walkmen go on Indefinite Hiatus

I’ve just read about one of my favourite live acts, The Walkmen, going on an Indefinite Hiatus and I must admit that I’m pretty sad about it!

Bassist Peter Bauer was quoted as saying:

“We really just have no idea. I don’t think any of us wanted to write another Walkmen record. Maybe that will change down the line, maybe it won’t, maybe we’ll play shows. I think it’s weird to make a hubbub about something if there’s nothing to really make a hubbub about. At the same time, I don’t think we’ve been a gang properly for a long time, so there’s not much to break up, I guess.” Continue reading

Not so much a review, more a summary because I didn’t make any notes at all.  The gig was sublime and I was having far too much fun to be thinking about anything else.

The Reflektors, as I think everybody knows, is the pseudonym for Arcade Fire.  They’ve done some smaller shows across the U.S and Europe in support of the new album ‘Reflektor’,  last night being their final gig as the band, in the seaside town of Blackpool.  I’ve never been to Winter Gardens before, but I was mightily impressed with the place.  The Empress Ballroom was a stunning venue and I’d definitely like to see some more bands there. My first review. The Futureheads in 2012

I thought i’d start off with the first review I ever wrote.  My place of employment at the time had set up a new fashion website and in an attempt to appeal to the young male demographic, bolted a blog on to it.  I was asked to write a couple of reviews for it, which were used, but the blog never really took off.

I will probably end each review with a badly taken picture (by myself) from the gig. Continue reading
